Detectable needles are specifically manufactured to be detected by metal detection systems at the plant, either with conventional metal detectors or X-ray. However, it does get more complicated because the orientation of the needle to the detector (along the sample plane or perpendicular) can drastically reduce the detectability of needles in the meat.
